Fact: During the two to five days that a female lion is in estrous, a mating pair will come together about once every fifteen to twenty minutes. Amazingly, 80% of all lion cubs will die before they reach two years of age. But male lions do more than just lie around all day while the females hunt. They also help to protect the cubs while their mothers are away, giving the young a greater chance for survival from intruders to the pride.
