Fact: Largest of all the zebra types, the average male Grevy's Zebra is 950 pounds (431 kg) and the average female is 850 pounds (386 kg). Compare this to the Mountain Zebra, which is between 530 and 820 pounds (240-372 kg).

Fact: There are four species of zebra: the Plains Zebra (Equus quagga), the Cape Mountain Zebra (Equus zebra), Grevy's Zebra (Equus grevyi) and Hartmann's Mountain Zebra (Equus hartmannae). There are six recognizeable subspecies of Plains Zebra: Burchell's Zebra (Equus quagga burchellii), Chapman's Zebra (Equus quagga chapmani), Crawshay's Zebra (Equus quagga crawshayi), Grant's Zebra (Equus quagga boehmi), Quagga (Equus quagga quagga) and Selous' zebra (Equus quagga borensis).
